Greetings MASFSA members,
It’s an exciting time to be a part of MASFSA and I am honored to serve as your President for the 2012-2013 year! First, let me say “Thank You” to all who attended the 2012 8th Annual Conference held in Bay City, Michigan. Your continued support is what makes MASFSA a valuable tool for Michigan colleges and universities to learn from each other as we work collectively to improve Michigan’s higher education industry. In addition to the knowledge that we gained from our sessions and roundtable discussions, we were astonished by the capabilities of a “mentalist”, we celebrated our associate members with a “Vendor Appreciation Night” dinner and we even had a chance to play in the dark for a bit (courtesy of the Doubletree). Conference highlights will be exhibited in MASFSA’s fall newsletter….coming soon!
MASFSA’s mission to “promote excellence in financial and customer service functions and network opportunities to membership” will continue this year. Throughout the year, we will be utilizing the post-conference survey feedback received from our attendees as a guide to bring the most relevant, up-to-date information in higher education to our membership. We all know that the changes taking place in schools and colleges around the country are never-ending and over the past year we have seen the devastation that can occur when integrity and accountability are not placed in high esteem on our campuses. MASFSA is not only dedicated to providing relevant information to our membership to promote the culture of integrity and accountability at their institution, but we will ensure that this culture is upheld within the organization as well.
Lastly, the planning of the 2013 9th Annual Conference to be held May 19th thru May 21st in Midtown Detroit is underway! Sessions will be held on the beautiful campus of Wayne State University while accommodations and other events will be held at the luxurious Motor City Casino and Resort Hotel, which is less than 2 miles from the campus. We are excited about the variety of topics to be offered, as well as, a new addition to the agenda this year called the “Open Table” sessions which will allow us to cover more topics and provide an even greater networking opportunity for all attendees. More details will be forthcoming so watch out for the MASFSA Newsletter this fall!
Yours in service,
April Ewing-Miles
